The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Poor Reception

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a more defined vision.

The president expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news echoes a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the full content from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and talented developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to continue.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the necessity for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After a period of talks, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

His leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to keep observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.

David
